No bus service: Tmn Setapak resident slams RapidKL, govt

TRANSIT wishes to highlight a complaint letter published in Berita Harian on 21 December 2009. The letter was about the lack of stage bus service in Taman Setapak, Kuala Lumpur. Since bus no 172 operated by Len Sen or Permata Kiara stopped serving the area 5 years ago, residents had no choice but to endure a treacherous 1km walk Jalan Gombak or Jalan Genting Klang to catch buses towards the city center.

The writer claimed that Rapid T205 that feeds commuters to Taman Melati LRT Station is too irregular, and that bus users had to ridiculously wait for hours for a bus to arrive. On behalf of the residents, the writer said complaints have been forwarded to the authorities (most likely DBKL) but no action has been taken so far.

TRANSIT wishes to point a few important things that need to be pushed:

Short Term
RapidKL to be hold accountable for failing to meet its own goals in servicing the present customers, what more to attract potential users who is currenly avoiding public transport.

Mid Term
Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system with its own dedicated bus lanes should be set up along the Jalan Gombak and Jalan Genting Klang corridors. Necessary transit points to encourage interchanges between routes should be made user friendly.

Long Term
The need for a Local Public Transport Authority to be established, so that the integrity of the public transport network system (studies in which route is the most efficient), reliability of transit services (contracting out routes to operators) and the availability necessary support systems (information, walking paths, proper infrastructure, dedicated bus lanes and priority signals) can be restored.

Penduduk Taman Setapak tiada bas awam sejak lima tahun lalu

BERPANAS HUJAN,
Kuala Lumpur.
