TRANSIT took note of this survey about RapidKL’s New Bus Ticketing System introduced by a student at Mara College.

Assalamualaikum w.b.t and hello everyone. My name is Nur Atiqah binti Md Salehuddin, the second year student at Mara College Seremban in International Baccalaureate (IB) programme. I’m doing a survey for my Internal Assessment in Business and Management subject. My focus is on the new ticketing system implemented by RapidKl bus company.

      The RapidKL bus ticketing system is based on short contact smart cards similar to the Touch ‘n’ Go card & using the same technology. However, there are issues about the compatibility of “standard” Touch ‘n’ Go cards with the RapidKL system & vice versa.

      Since the whole point of having a “smart card” is to only need one card for multiple uses, the fact that there are compatibility issues is disappointing & frustrating for TRANSIT and public transport users.

      Thanks for the information and the link.

      It would be quite interesting if the supervisor for this project is the one responsible for the overpriced, bloated, ineffective PRESTO Card that was implemented in the Greater Toronto Area by the regional transport authority Metrolinx.

      The problem is not as much with the card as with the fact that the PRESTO Card was an over-engineered, over-designed, proprietary card system that doesn’t necessary do what the user wants it to do.

      Unfortunately, the bigger problem is not with Accenture and over-designed cards, but rather, the fact that the debate about public transport fares and the integration of bus & rail systems (if that is indeed the plan) is not being discussed with the public.

      In other words, Prasarana is purchasing a card system that may have been designed according to what Accenture (or whichever company) wants rather than what the public actually need.
