Will unilateral approval of KiDEx fracture the Selangor Government?

TRANSIT took note of the increasingly public disagreement within the Selangor Government about the prioritization of the Kinrara-Damansara expressway also known as the KiDEx ” skyway.”

4 ADUNs from Petaling Jaya have already expressed their opposition to the approval of the expressway and called for greater transparency and suggested that the corridor would be better used for public transport. There is a public group of residents expressing their concerns. Azman Ali, a member of the government and a challenger for Menteri Besar, has also expressed his dismay at the project saying that the government was putting the cart before the horse.

In response the Menteri Besar has said that not building the highway would be unfair to the developer.

Work on underground section of Jakarta Metro begins

TRANSIT took note that construction of the Jakarta Metro began on April 4th.

The Jakarta Metro network will eventually have 2 lines (North-south and East-West) essentially following the path first blazed by the Transjakarta bus service nearly a decade ago.

Project manager Mass Rapid Transit Jakarta announced that work started on the underground section of Jakarta’s first metro line on April 4.

Excavation began at Hotel Indonesia Traffic Circle, where there will be an underground station. A guide wall is due to be completed within three months, which will allow a diaphragm wall to be built. The timescale for the completion of this and subsequent station works is four years.

In May the city authorities announced the winners of the tenders for the three underground civil works packages. Sumitomo Mitsui Construction Company and PT Hutama Karya is undertaking the work at Hotel Indonesia Traffic Circle, whereas the other two packages are being carried out by a consortium of Shimizu, Obayashi, Wijaya Karya and Jaya Konstruksi.

Two of the three elevated civil works packages will be carried out by a Tokyu-WIKA consortium, with a consortium of Obayashi, Shimizu and Jaya Konstruksi responsible for the other.

Revenue operations on the 15·7 km line are planned to start in early 2018. An 8·1 km northern extension is planned as the second phase.

Selangor Government makes unwise decision to proceed with study of elevated highway through Petaling Jaya

TRANSIT took note of the unfortunate news that the Selangor Government will move ahead with studies for the Kinrara Damansara Expressway, also known as KiDEx or the KiDEx “skyway” (a falsely romanticized name just as false as the pictures on their website)

The Selangor state government has approved studies to be conducted on the controversial Kinrara-Damansara Expressway (KIDEX) project, Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim said today.

The Selangor mentri besar also said that public hearings will be held once the studies are completed.

The project has come under heavy criticism from residents worried about pollution and the lack of publicly available details.

ADUNs in Petaling Jaya call for PJ LRT instead of proposed Kinrara Damansara Expressway

Transit took note of the proposal from 4 ADUN in the Selangor State Assembly (representing Petaling Jaya) that the route of the proposed Kinrara Damansara Expressway (a.k.a. “KiDex” or “KIDEX Skyway“) would be better utilized for public transportation.

New Ampang Line trains introduced (update 1)

Prasarana and RAPIDKL will be introducing the new Ampang line trains at 3 pm on Thursday, February 27th.

Update:

This article by fz.com is one of many with details about the new trains which will begin arrival in Malaysia in September 2014.

The important details:

*50 units of 6-car trains designed and built by CAR Zhuzhou (which also built the “Six Car Set” for KTM Komuter)
*30 of these trains will replace the trains currently used on the Ampang line … which are only entering their 20th year (generally train carriages are expected to last approximately 30 years … Although the measurement is really based on kilometers traveled rather than time in service)
*20 of the trains will be used on the Ampang line extension when it opens in 2016
*The trains will have open gangway allowing passengers to walk between all the cars (as compared to the 3 pairs of cars in the current trains) spreading out the passenger load

Keretapi Sarong to chug through (The Star)

KUALA LUMPUR: Expect hundreds of people dressed in colourful sarongs to flock to trains in the city on Saturday.

Keretapi Sarong is an event inspired by No Pants Subway, a flashmob which, in 2009, organised 1,200 New Yorkers to ride the subway without wearing pants in a snow storm.

The event is organised by RandomAlphabets (RA), a non-profit organisation that puts together event-based projects in and around Kuala Lumpur.

MRT Update: Ho Chin Soon research statement speculates on route of MRT Circle Line

TRANSIT took note of this interesting information courtesy of a research statement produced in 2011 by Ho Chin Soon company.

The map below shows Ho Chin Soon’s anticipated route for the MRT Line 2 (Circle Line), which is somewhat different from the MMC-Gamuda proposal.

We are not endorsing Ho Chin Soon’s anticipated route for the MRT. We just wonder how feasible it is compared to the Gamuda MRT proposal, but then both lines have their advantages and challenges.
